I re-calibrated my gauges and when I fired up the engine the temperature was way off (it read high - had a mechanical temp gauge to verify). I replaced the repro sending unit with an original sending unit and the temp read in-line with the mechanical gauge.
I've also had issues with oil pressure sending units. One has output a pressure signal when the key is on and the engine isn't running, and another provided questionable output (pressure remains substantially constant when the engine is running regardless of engine RPM and engine temperature). I finally found one that provided results that were close to the pressure provided from the mechanical oil pressure gauge. I haven't tried an original oil sender yet, but I suspect it would provide better results than the repro units.
Most fuel gauge problems that I have seen or heard about lead back to the repro fuel sending units.
So based on my experience I would say many (most) of the repro senders on the market are junk.
