I have a 1971 440-6 RR that was built in 9/70. It has the dual point Prestolite distributor and was wondering if the car should have the Mechanical or Electronic voltage regulator. Right now it appears to have a mechanical one and I was reading that electronic distributors had the electronic VR and points had a mechanical VR. The wires are spliced in that area so I don't know if the VR was replaced with a mechanical one. Don't have a build sheet so I can't verify what was originally there. Hoping someone knows.
thx

You should have Electronic Voltage regulator to go hand and hand with your dual field Alternator.

I cant ans the Q but is it an OE mechanical "box" type or a replacement electronic "box" type? Curious on the alt too, single or dual field terminal? EDIT on early A bodies at least, a flat triangle (later) reg will not fit in the squarish firewall recess without trimming one or both of its' side mounting flanges with the 2 mounting bolt holes. any feel on the wireing mods you mentioned at that area. EDIT in other words is there room on the firewall in the correct location for the flat later reg which might help us determine what it originally had

This is the answer

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.
