Hey guys, I currently have a 2001 Ram 3500 4x4 with a 360 and a bad 46re tranny.. I can buy a 12 valve cummins with the 518 tranny for a few bucks cheaper than a complete rebuild on the 46re.. So I was thinking it would make for a better tow rig with the cummins. My questions are.. Will the 241dhd t case that's currently there bolt up to the 518 tranny? I'm figuring on changing motor mounts, and radiator.. Other than that can you offer any other advice as far as other work that needs done to accomplish this? Thanks!

the bolt pattern on both cases should be the same, the splines on the 518 and the t case are most likely different, its not that hard to change the input shaft on the t case, you might find the info on that by searching zumbrata gears website, some input shafts have thicker bearings than others!!

It will bolt right up. Just can't interchange between an auto and manual without changing the transfer input. Manual transmissions have a larger output size.
