yes I would use some sealer as unfortunately part dimentions ain't perfect. I would use "the right stuff" gasket maker, a thin/even amt. it WILL seal! EDIT some on the bolt threads too

I use some teflon sealant or even silicone on the bolt threads as they are not blind holes. No other real leak issues there that I can remember. Any damage on the pump bore in the case? Does the front drum have the small hole drilled under the piston for use with a transbrake? If so, oil may be getting out of the vent and running down. I would not object to using a bit of silicone to help seal the o-ring if it was needed. Any silicone in a transmission is applied sparingly.
If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

Are you SURE it`s not dripping down from the converter hub seal......... Yes, it's dry below the converter snout. It's just the bottom, of the pump that's wet.

Try pressure checking the converter while its out. Mine was weeping where it seats into the rear of the crank. I rigged up it with some stuff from lowes to check it. Good luck.
