Don't have one of each in front of me to compare.Is the body the same with a different length shaft , or are they different length bodies?

Bodies are exactly the same, only the shaft is different.

Direct Connection used to sell a spacer kit so that you could use a 440 distributor in a 383

I ain't done it but I wouldn't be afraid to trim down a RB dist to fit & it'd let you get all of the rotational and axial play out of the dist tang/intergear slot interface. first I would shim the lower dist shaft to .005" axial play & be sure to deburr all sharp edges when grinding
