I have a '72 Charger Ramcharger hood and the little door ain't workin' I have 15psi (20psi reving) from engine. After going through can, in to the car, through the switch and back out to the the door actuator 8psi (13psi)...Is that enough?

I tried it return spring on/off no difference. If I give the door considerable "help" it works fine. The 8/13 psi is same for each side with the switch on/off and I confirmed when the "open" line has vacuum the "closed" side is at "0" and vice versa

All new parts, most from PG classic including actuator

Thanks in advance

hi ak, if you have vac that works and switches at the actuator your good, but you need the actuator. i'm just going thru this with a new resto from a advertiser on this site for a 1970 gtx 440 4 speed dana car and the actuator lasted 45 days. I will take this new resto one apart and post pics. johnrr get ready. just like the fuel vapor separators... the original metal one was on the car and worked just fine. ronnie

Vacuum isn't measured in PSI.

It can be measured in inches of mercury or inches of water.

If it's inches of water you have a problem, inches of mercury not so much.

They say there are no such thing as a stupid question.
They say there is always the exception that proves the rule.
Don't be the exception.

Forget it, I figured it out myself.

It would be good to share your findings with the rest of us to help the Mopar community at large. When I was doing my 1970 Roadrunner I found it did need some substantial amount of vacuum to overcome the weight of the door and the resistance of the return spring. My engine pulled plenty of vacuum at idle. Once the door was up it stayed up fine. I was using an original vacuum motor.

Doesn't the vacuum keep it closed and the spring opens the door? As I recall we would flip the switch on the dash and then as the secondaries opened up (vacuum dropped) the door would open up. When we slowed back down (high vacuum) the door would close back down. This was in my buddy's 440+6 RoadRunner back in high school so it was a long time ago.

If that were the case then the door would remain open when the engine is off. Your friend must of had the hoses mixed. I flip switch on dash and door opens. Even with switch in the on position when I shut the engine off the door closes.
