I don't care for your negative connotation in your sig. "I used to be a racer". I've known you on this site for a long time (old age keeps me from remembering how long). Just because of health issues keeping you from physically driving doesn't mean you aren't a racer at heart. You build, you tune, you troubleshoot. You have gotten your hands dirty and have experienced as much as the next racer. You are more of a racer than a lot of the "Paper Racers" that are around. Now, change your sig line, post a pic of your car, and be PROUD of it, damn it. Don't make me have to come over there, young man!

Well, I was a drag racer back when the sport was more pure; i.e. very little cheating and mind games and NO HANDICAP STARTS so, if I was still a racer I couldn't be "proud" of it, merely a racer.

We should all be proud of who we are and what we have accomplished. What our opinions of how drag racing has evolved, or the politics of the sanctioning bodies, is not the subject here. I am self taught starting as a gas attendant back in the '70s and got my first trophy just to prove to the guys in the shop that I knew what I was doing. My car was the only one that survived the trip from home, to track, and driven home again. One guy blew the rear out of his Buick GS. One guy was too chicken $h1t to run his ratted out 327 Malibu. My other buddy had his 396 Chevelle start knocking real bad the next week. And I ran the fastest at the track with my junkyard 383.

It should be, it relates to "pride"....the subject of the OP.

When I saw the title thought you were headin' to ban camp?

Nice sentiment though.

A lot of us don't drive anymore but when I think of the word "racer"it sure includes engine builders, head porters, dyno guys etc. We call drivers now "legal ballast".
