I just pulled the 340 engine out of my 69 Valiant to rebuild, now that I can see the VIN on the block is there a way to tell what car it originally came out of?

It depends on the year. Post a pic of the stamping

So it's out of a 71 that was built in Hamtramck....A or E body, is there a way to find the exact car?

I'm just curious about it nothing more if it's a bunch of trouble.

There are a few people that track 1971 Hammy numbers here I am sure.

You can also post it in the thread at the link below.

With that one you won't know what it came out of for certain unless you can locate the car it originally came from.

based on my limited '71 a-body data

work I'd guess 1971 340 DEMON LM29H1B190507 (VS. a DUSTER VS29H1B190507) think its always been in Canada?

probably scheduled 10/23/70 - what's the stamped info on the front look like? scope

Numbers on the front are 6 29 70. I would also guess that the car it is out of was from around Winnipeg

Is that the casting #?

There should be a number stamped on the front of the block under the drivers side deck surface. Post a pic if you can.

That is the side of the block.

Look on the front for a longer series of stamped numbers. (not cast numbers)

GW340P33650047

G = 1971 model year
W = Windsor engine assembly plant
340 = cu.in.
P = premium fuel
3365 = Wed. 10/14/70 engine assembly date (EAD)
0047 = unit number (that day)

If you are confident the engine came from a CANADA Y07 spec. car it would've been a 340 Duster VS29H1B190507

I would say the engine has always been around Winnipeg, just wanted to see if it was out of a 71 Swinger 340

Weren't all the 71-72 Swinger 340's built in Windsor, Plant Code "R"?

So that would preclude this one being from the Hammy plant.
