one never seems to be done with the restorations. I'm looking for the thermoquad Carburetor Solenoid Wiring Harness for a '72 Challenger with a 340 and A/C. whenever i run the A/C the idle drops almost to the point of stalling. I have the Solenoid and it does work. I just don't have the wiring harness to connect it to the A/C. I see that Bill Rolik has a harness for a '71 340 but i was wondering is one was available for a '72. any info would be great.

you forgot the last part

"that needs a wire harness to hook it up"

Why don't you just make one yourself?

yea, i can make a harness myself, which is probably what i'm going to do anyway. But i was trying to find out how it was done from the factory because my car is restored like that. I really don't want a haphazard harness that doesn't look original to the car on it. I figured that there's got to be someone on the forum that has a setup similar to mine. From the sounds of it, i guess not.

Do you have the factory service manual to see how the factory wired it in?? I have the idle solenoid on my 74 Duster360 with TQ, and it is wired to the hot field wire on the alternator - but that means the minute you turn the key on, the solenoid pops out to keep the idle speed higher. I would think that for A/C, you would wire it to the compressor circuit, so the minute the compressor is turned on, then the solenoid is popped out and higher idle speed. I am going to add this to my 70 Sport Satellite with A/C, so the idle will pick up when the A/C is on . . .

Cheers

here's the lead that comes off the solenoid. i'm trying to figure out where it connects to. there's nothing on my repo-harness for it to connect to. don't ever remember having it connected to anything either. the right angle end goes on the solenoid.

oh, can't find anything in the service manual about it either, other than how it works. I checked a '72 parts catalog also, no dice.

From the factory it attaches to the one of the field terminals on the alternator.

alright, i checked my shop manual again and yea, it's there, your pic is for a dart, but the challenger diagram has it too. then i have this solenoid all wrong, it's not for the A/C and it's suppose to have power all the time. i'm even more confused now of the actual purpose of it.

Anti Dieseling I believe. Were I you I'd hook up a relay to the A/C circuit so it works as you like.

It's simply a device to keep your engine from Dieseling after you shut it off (The EPA didn't like all that raw gas being coughed into the atmosphere). As said above, it needs a constant 12v source, it activates when you shut off the key, basically slamming the throttle blades closed to choke the engine off. The wire you have goes the alternator as described above. Your car will run fine without one should you decide to leave it off.

thanks for clarifying that for me. it's been running fine for years without it connected so i don't thing it'll be an issue. I'm gonna try making an harness to connect it to the A/C system.
