This iagree

I can believe how much mis information is out there concerning these carbs, one of the, if not THE the most misunderstood and fantastic carburetor designs ever offered to the public.

Absolutely !!! . . . I have run the TQ on my Duster360 ever since I got the car way back in 84 !!! I picked up a 77 New Yorker, with 30k miles on it, all factory (Lean Burn - uggh), swapped out the lean burn for std Mopar electronic ignition, and a TQ from a 75 440 (I rebuilt this EXACTLY as the manual says) - the NYer, was hands down the best running car - pump the gas twice when cold, set the choke, turn the key - VROOM ! drive away with no stumble, hesitation or anything ! . . .

For those that don't want thier TQ's you can send them my way !!!

Cheers

Mark

[quote=Paul_ found out you need the factory base gasket not a aftermarket. [/quote]

Whats the deal with this? I have not heard this before... SO you need to use the original style open center gasket and not a closed center type? I understand vacuum leaks but if its sealed around the outside, whats different about the inside?

it took me MANY tries to finally figure out how to get these things to work correctly, and now i prefer them over anything out there. in the meantime, i played with holleys and couldn't get them to do anything other than run rich. i also made up a couple of cnc programs to make metering rods and jets, due to the limited availability, and now have enough parts to do lots in my future. i try to buy core carbs at swap meets for $25 or so.

Buy any factory service manual from 72 up, they show how to set them correctly. A 0-80 set of drill bits are needed also. Air door tool is a little harder to find, maybe someone remakes it. Look on line, there are strip kits available occasionally.

Yes, the best part is buying up "parts" TQ at swap meets, for cheap because nobody wants them . . . .

He might mean the 1/4 thick gasket with the plastic inserts where the bolts go.?? Not a thin one.

Ok, I guess I'm not sure what he was trying to say... I didn't consider the thick/thin aspect, as the aftermarket base gaskets that I have used were thick and just like the original. Still I wouldn't think a thin gasket would make the car run bad and need a Holley instead.

The Holley Street Demon carbs are new and copy most of the good features of the T-Quad, especially if you buy the one with the space age plastic bowl. They will also bolt onto both squarebore and spreadbore intakes.

I was wondering when Scott was going to chime in. This is the original TQ on my '73. After Scott did his magic, it starts with just the bump of the key and runs great.

that's pretty !

the biggest problem with TQ's is the bowls leaking. i had a brand new bowl I used on my TQ when i got my car on the road back in '09. this week I took it apart to freshen it up and found the bowl leaking at the primary jet well. I had to go through 4 bowls before i found one that didn't leak. good thing i have a stash of them on the shelf.

Thats the only issue I ever had and it's an easy fix, remove the well, clean off the old epoxy, use a gas resistant epoxy to put it back on and you're done !! twocents

You can get new bowls, no need to dig around junkyards or 40 year old stashes trying to find one that doesn't leak.

How many core TQ's do you need to buy to find a bowl that's good?

Doesn't take long.

Well,I probably have close to a dozen and there all good, only bad one I ever had to replace I dropped! If you want to spend $100.00 fine,if you want to take about 20 min to fix one, that works to,your choice. Also,Walker lists two bowls, there are a few more configurations, you may or may not get what you need.

They are the best carb out there period. I have run as fast as 10.85 in a low compression 340 NHRA G/S 1972 Demon that is at over 3300 pounds. I pulled a 1972 Duster that had been sitting in my big shop for 11 yrs dumped some fuel in the tank changed the plugs fired it up. It idles at 650 rpm starts with a turn of the key without pumping the throttle. The holley 6pack carbs I have need a full rebuild because of all the gasket shrinkage and other problems like stuck idle screws. Give me a THERMOQUAD any day!!!

wow, that's awesome! i'd pay the 100 for a new bowl that works, as long as it isn't some Chinese junk. the crazy money people want for TQ's now at the swap meets, it's worth the 100 clams.
