So I bought a 9550 tuner from a friend of mine, I watched him set it back to stock when he removed it from his truck to put the 408 out and stock 5.9 back in, now I need to tune my truck and it says it has been used in too many vehicles (I know for a fact he only used it in his one truck and he bought it brand new. So figured I would call SCT, they said tough luck we don't even have the tool to un-lock it anymore even if I paid them their normal fee to do it because it is so old (6 years). Does anyone know how to make this thing work again? I am not trying to use it on a mess of vehicles just my one truck (1999 Dakota). Any help?

On the diesel stuff from Bully Dog you had to make sure that the tire size was set back to stock and the tunes were uninstalled. Maybe something like that would help

Diablo had this same thing happen, I just set my back to stock again before it released and ready to tune another car. Plug it back into his truck and set it back to stock settings again and just watch the screen once done click the okay button if there is one and you should be good to put it on your truck

Once an ECM's number is entered into the SCT Tuner, it will never be able to be used on another vehicle. They were designed that way to ensure more sales.

If you really want one, you can buy one from Performance Injection Equipment. They can dramatically improve performance over a stock tune and are very flexible for tuning performance builds of all description.

Ask for Chris. He is a great guy to work with for writing performance tunes. All you need is a wideband to give him feedback.

Well that sucks, he had a very similar stroker in his to mine so I figured it would be close to what I need. With the stock tune in it it idles rough when warm instead of smoothing out because the timing is too low and the rev limiter kicks in right in the middle of the power band.

Aparently if you have a chrysler it can only be used on one vehicle but if we had a ford or chevy you could take it out and switch to another vehicle 5 times.

Now I need to buy another tuner, a wideband and pay someone to tune it all over again and it will not be an SCT. Are there any affordable options for a tuner I can buy and program it myself with my lap top? I got 5 boys and another one on the way so my play money is pretty tight.

The tuners are only allowed a certain(5 I believe) unlocks before it would have to be sent back to SCT. If it is an XCal 2 it has been discontinued for a couple of years, that would be why they say they can't unlock it.
