Does any one know how to set the idle speed on these carbs. There isn`t throttle plate screws just a big brass screw between the mixture screws. I can`t get it to idle below 1200 rpm.
Thanks!

there would have to be the idle speed screws on the side of the AFB's

No idle speed screws on the mechanical linkage, idle speed is adjusted by the air bypass screws on the front of each carb.Open each mixture screw 1 to 2 turns out on both carbs.Set the idle air bypass screw on the front of each carb one turn open then adjust equal amounts in or out until you get the desired idle speed.Start with the front carb and adjust the mixture screws in one at a time until you start to lose rpm.s then back off 1/4 turn, you may have to go back and adjust both again to get it right.make adjustment with interconnecting linkage disconnected. This is a set of 3447 Max Wedge carbs, same set up.

iagreeThe big brass idle speed screw in the middle of those type carbs. controls the idle RPM shruggy

I know middle is the idle control air bleed. But I cant get my idle down below 1200.If I have the wrong base gaskets.Do you think that could be causing my problem? The kits come with 4 different gaskets. Does anybody know which one is correct?

Remove one of the carbs. and look at the bottom of it and use the base gasket that matches your carb. on every hole or passage scope If I'm remembering correctly there should be one slot in front, not two holes, and the front should have smaller primary cut outs than the rear sizes scope

If they won't adjust below 1,200 rpm you almost certainly have a vacuum leak. The base gaskets would be a good place to start looking.

The big screw in the middle is not an air bleed screw as it controls how much air the eng gets at idle. They do this instead of an idle speed screw on the linkage that moves the throttle blades. They just close the throttle blades so much and then control the air to the eng at idle by that big screw. Make sure your throttle blades are closing all the way at idle as you dont want anything holding the throttle blades open more then should be. I agree with everyone as it sounds like a vacum leak or the throttle blades sticking open some as the eng seems to be getting to much air at idle. Good luck , Ron

I would disconnct the throttle cable and the throtle linkage between both carbs. Leave both springs on the carbs up) to see if the linkage is causing ypur problem, if it idles fine or won't idle with them disconnected adjust the big idle speed screws to get the RPM you want scope thumbs
