I tried to delete an individual post on my old topic because the link for a video didn't work. I screwed up and deleted it all. Anyways, I called Jesel and all their adjusters for pushrod oiling are hollow. I was told it should have a small stream out of the adjuster so oil sprays around while the engine is running. This is how the rockers are oiled; they depend on splash oiling. They feel drilling a hole in the rocker for pressurized oiling to the trunions weakens the rocker. Anyways, hopefully I can get the videos to work here since I'm doing all of this from my phone. Here's what I started with. Oil pressure was only 10psi when hot at idle. As you can hear, I'm barely get the drill spinning before it shoots out.

That still looks like too much oil to me.

Just think about how most of the roller lifters oil the pushrod when they are clocked correctly to the oil gallery.
The oil feed hole is above the band in the lifter, and the pressurized oil has to squeeze between the lifter bore and the lifter body to get into the feed hole.
That's how your lifters would oil if they were installed in the block they were intended to go in.

With a direct feed hole like you have, I would have it down around .012".

The only real "issue" with too much oil up top is if it compromises how much oil is in the sump at high rpm operation. It needs to be able to drain all of that oil as quickly as it's pumped to the top.

That is a concern... how quick will drainback be. I wouldn't mind enough oil up there to keep the springs happy, but I need enough on the bearings as well. I have a .020" hole on the oil galley side while the other oil hole isn't restricted in the current video. Believe it or not, the oil hole on the cam side was also restricted in the first video and the oil galley side looked like this...

In theory, if you blocked off one of the holes in the lifter completely, and had full time oiling through one .020" hole, that X 8 is just about the same area as one .060" hole feeding the whole head, which is what I use when oiling those heads through the shaft with the external lines.

I can try that and see what it looks like. When I initially went to re-do these, I blocked off the oil galley side and removed the expoxy from the cam side just to see how much oil that hole itself would provide. I got next to nothing at the rocker. That's why I haven't tried restricting that side again.

When I find a solution, what does everyone recommend for restricting the hole? Comp recommends jbweld, but I don't know how that would hold up to heat, vibration, etc.
I had planned on trying to find a brass rod/plug to press in and then drill, or drill/tap for a brass set screw, loctite it in, and drill that. Obviously one would have to take care to clean the hell out of the lifters afterwards.

The reason I use a feed as big as .060/side is actually for low speed operation, particularly in regular cars where the engine is tipped back. I'm trying to insure enough volume in the shaft with all the leaking needle bearing rockers when the engine speed is low and the pressure/volume is low, so that the rockers near the front of the engine still get some oil under those conditions.
With pushrod oiling, each pushrod feeds each rocker, so there isn't the worry of keeping enough oil in the shaft so the front rockers don't run dry. Because each gets it's own supply of oil, I think you could actually run less total area than the one .060" hole per side.

If you're going to modify a lifter for a test, I'd try a .012" hole(full time) and see how the flow looks with that. If you think you want more, increase the hole a couple thou at a time.
When the holes are that small, a couple thou is a pretty big percentage increase in area(a .020 hole is 4 X the area of a .010 hole).

I can tell you on the Chevy stuff with edge orifice oiling, when we're priming those, it's not like there is a huge amount of oil coming up top.

I think I'll try your suggestion on the .012" hole. Now I just need smaller bits. 020" is the smallest I had on hand. I need to find the happy medium here. I would like the springs to have plenty of oil, within reason, to keep them happy seeing as how it sees some street time.

In the beginning, yes. It still may be a little much, but I don't think it's THAT far off now.

Been there done that the valve springs do not need that much oil you are not racing in the Daytona 500. Depending on what kind of pan you have might want to purchase one of these:Canton Racing Products Accusump.
