I want to install this radio in my 77 volare. I have the red and orange wire from the harness on the car but the radio I want to install has no orange wire. What goes where?

Have you looked on line for a wiring diagram for that radio? The orange wire is normally a memory 12v constant feed. Some radios have a diagram etched into the case somewhere.

I don`t know what year the radio is. The only number I see is 20C425 RCA and serial number. It is a Chrysler NOS 8 track am fm radio.

I believe orange is instrument lights. Put a meter on it and turn the lights on.

Not too sure there was a memory feed line in a 77 Volare, no memory to feed.

The orange and red coming from the harness I`m good with but I don`t know if the tan wire on the radio should hook up to the orange. The orange should be for the radio lights and the red for power.

After reading about it maybe it`s not a NOS chrysler radio but a replacement radio.

Odd, you'd think the connectors would plug and play if it was specifically designed for a Chrysler setup.

I've put factory 70's Am/FM/CB radio in my 87 Diplomat and it plugged and played no problem. I've also put mid 90's Neon radio in the same Diplomat, again plug and play.

Looks like tan might be for the lights. Did someone stuff it into the same point as the red lead?

Red and tan are in the same plug, if that is what you were asking. Yeah, I don`t understand the wiring on the radio as the plugs don`t look like anything I have seen on a 70`s even 80`s Chrysler product. Since it`s a 8 track I don`t see the radio being any newer then early to mid 80`s.

A quick check on mymopar.com but their wiring diagrams only go to 76. The Volare/Aspen diagrams for 76 don't even show a radio connection.
Did you try http://www.forfmjbodiesonly.com/classicmopar/

Ok, I bench tested the radio. The tan wire connected to the orange plug for the lighting and the red to red for power. I cut the plugs off and wired up the speakers. All working good. Thanks
