I did a search and really didn't find my answer so I figured I would post here. Thinking of changing my factory alt to a GM style one wire setup. This is on a 77 Volare with a small block. I know other people with small blocks have done it. Mine has electric water pump on it now. Brackets and info appreciated !!!

While it is not a one wire I have had great luck with a GM CS130 alternator. I use a bracket I got from Bob Mazolini(sp?) with a meziere pump.
I think the GM alternator upgrade was one of the best things I have done to this car. It runs my EFI, two electric fuel pumps, Electric WP, and 2 fans with zero trouble, even with a 5" crank pulley.

I have a Tuff Stuff 1 wire on my big block Demon. It's the GM/Ford hybrid from Summit. Works great. Make sure to install a inline fuse. Tuff Stuff is made in the U.S.A. too!

The problem with this setup is I don't think that this bracket is available anymore.
If someone were to make them again I would probably buy a spare.

One wires work great on a street strip car. The more often they run the better. They operate by "bleeding off" a very small amount of electricity to the rotor leaving the regulator "on" Which means the longer it sits the more it will drain your battery. So driving on the street will help keep the battery charged. the best choice of GM style alternator would be a CS130D. It has double internal fans for better cooling but much better it has larger bearings then other styles making it great for higher RPM's, CS 130 would be your next choice as pictured above, It puts out good power at low RPM but prone to bearing failure even in normal street cars without high RPM. 10SI is last choice but very popular. It has an external fan and you can make it charge 105 amps like the others but has low output in low ROM range Great info. I guess my next venture is to get the alt and get to work.. Thanks everybody once again.
