1/4"- 7/16 deep and I use the thin gaskets and glue them to the bottom of the valve covers. No issues easy off and on.

I run the Superformance gasket the problem is I can't tighten them enough..the 12 point is a good idea I'll try that thanks Yes, the 12 point nuts are a good idea. You can also clearance the valve covers to get a socket in there, I'm sure there is plenty of meat to do it. Modifying a socket is another alternative but they are very hard and difficult to reduce in diameter. Yes, the gasket performs best when there is proper clamp load applied

When I design valve covers I design in enough clearance for a socket. Not sure why Indy couldn't do the same thing. Only takes 30 seconds to measure a socket and enter the number into the CAD file.
