One: are small block and Big block 727 converters interchangeable? yes or why not

Two: is the 400ci internally externally balanced? Do you need a special flex plate like a 360.

Basic questions but I can think of the correct answer and not in the position to research. Thanks

I can answer part of it.. the conv for a SB and a BB
727 are the same... when it comes to mounting it...
it will slide in just like the other and it bolts on
to the flex just like the other... normally the stall
will be different but thats all... as to the balance...
I dont know.. I never ran a 400 block

According to B@M they are external balance.

IF he is running a external balanced conv he can knock
the weight off... if if he needs to add weight MP use
to sell the weights and the location to where it went..
but I dont know if they do any more or not

As mentioned, converters yes. A cast crank 400 is externally balanced, and has it's own imbalance. Meaning, it will need a special 400 imbalance flexplate, or a torque converter with weights for a 400. A 360 or 440 will not be the same.

Thanks fellas, I appreciate the info. I know the converter is Neutral balanced he has it on a 360 with a B&M counter weighted flexplate.

So I have to find out how to put the weights on it or buy the appropriate flexplate if it is available.

It's available from B&M. Save yourself a lot of grief and pick up the plate for about $80 and call it a day.

B@M has a flex for use with neutral balance converters for the 400's

Actually, all cast crank BB's (383, 400, 440) use the same external balance weight. The B&M #10237 covers them all.

My mistake John. You are correct.
