Hi guys
I'm having major issue with my ram! My truck went into limp mode two day ago in which I could reset by pressing on the accelerated pedal three time which last for a little while then it would go into limp mode again.. I manage to get it somewhere to use a code reader on it which said low voltage on tps.. Well I replace it today.. It running good for a little while then it went into limp mode again but it was fast idling this time.. I pull off the road and shut it off and did the reset again.. It running right again no light came on but it running with a slight hesitation.. Can someone tell what i'm doing wrong?? Please! The old throttle body had a lot of oil carbon buildup on it...

CTD or Gas?

Sorry, didn't see the throttle body comment. Have you run the codes again?

Did you reset the TPS to zero it or just bolt on a new one?

Well I didn't know that I recycle the key a couple of times.. I had problem with still I read that I need to reprogram computer .. I took it to the dodge place they did it for me. Then it started a new problem before I left the dealership.. The service manager seen the low voltage light on said alt or battery not doing right.. What it doing it go to limp mode with fast idle.. I can deserted the computer I can go a little farther d
Then it do it again ..alt putting out 13.8 and battery at 74% per battery tester.. I got a new alt and got my finger cross..

If the alt is putting out 13.8 volts and the battery is only at 74%, I think I would put a battery charger on the battery for a couple hours and retest it. At 13.8 volts, the battery should be very near 100%. I'm assuming the battery terminals are both clean?

These computer controlled motors don't do well if the battery is not up to par.

If after a recharge, and the battery tests good, if you still get the low voltage code for the TPS, you might want to check the connections for a tight and corrosion free fit. And clean out the carbon out of the TPS passages real good. Gene

I wouldn't worry about the condition of the motor because of the gunk build up in the TPS passages, I think its just something that happens with short trips. The V6 in my Dakota had horribly gunked up passages, motor had 118,000 miles, and just went on a 3400 mile trip and only used 1 quart of oil. Gene

Yes I cleaned the runner the best I could.. I sprayed the runner real good with throttle body cleaner.. I think I need to change my plug again I have slight miss.. I put on a set of general grabber tires on her yesterday what you guys think about those tires they seem to gripped the road pretty good so far...

Well, since we really don't know what your truck is, its kind of hard to help much. Mopar has been making fuel injected Rams since 1988.

You probably can put a carb and a dist in it. Might be expensive, and wouldn't make any difference on a bad alt or the old battery. Old batteries and old charging systems have been failing since they were first used, being fuel injected has little bearing on that.

If its working now, just drive the truck. Expecting it to screw up is just asking for trouble, and at some point you will be rewarded for your worries. Your truck is a piece of machinery. It needs to be kept up and they can fail from time to time, its part of using them. Gene

It a 2008 ram ..5.7 HDMI auto..

Could the map sensor cause my troubles? It went into limp mode again Thursday. I unconnected and reconnect plugs on the truck also cleaned the grounds on it too.. It running OK I really need someone to look it over and give me ideas to look for...

The parts I have replaced so far!
Throttle body
Crank sensor (twice)
Cam sensor
Coolant sensor I thought it was leaking.

I'm unemployed just looking for more info on this truck!

Why didn't you replace the throttle pedal(which is the TPS)????

Tps is on the throttle body, not the accelerator pedal. Next time it happens, take it to autozone or something and have them scan the codes. Then search on google what that exact code is. You may get lucky and find a service manual online which will then tell you how to troubleshoot it.

If it is setting the low tps voltage code every time it is probably an issue with the wiring going to the tps sensor.

On a 5.7 Hemi there is absolutely not a TPS on the throttlebody.. The pedal incorporates the TPS which sends a signal to the computer telling it how far the pedal is pushed(aka how far open it is).. The computer then sends a signal to the stepper motor(which is on the throttle body) telling it how far to open the throttle blade.

It's integrated into the throttle body. The stepper motor needs position feedback. There are more than 2 wires going to my throttle body, indicating it's got a position sensor in there...

I would look real carefully at all electrical connections and grounds. Clean the grounds on the battery and going to the computer really well. Also, make sure the wiring to your gas pedal is tight and good. Make sure all connections to the computer are tight. You'd be surprised how little it takes to cause some frustrating problems in computer controlled vehicles.
