Hi All,
Was looking at an in-car vid of my shifting and see the shift light is turning on way early - set at 6500 and is coming on about 5900

Has anyone else ever noticed this as a problem? Crossing the line it looks like the tach agrees with what the RPMs should be so I'm assuming that the problem is related to the shift light setting (pot/vibration)

I was thinking about the MSD LED standalone light, or even the autometer. Any luck with those?
Thanks

Does the shift light use rpm chips that you plug
in... those go bad often
EDIT
if its a knob type... spin it back and forth a few
times.. they get dirty
wave

It is the knob type. I check the setting in the staging lanes before every pass because I've hit it with my helmet several times in the past. This changed the setting to as low as 3500 so I got into the habit of checking. I never did try spinning the knob back and forth. I'll give it a try.
Thanks

Probably not the answer you want but I never look at the shift light. Wait till the engine is done pulling than shift. All muscle memory.

yes, for the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts I'm probably going by ear (or whats left of my left ear). But with the 3.08 1st gear and 4.56 gears my inconsistency is mainly in the 1-2 shift. So if I can get myself to trigger on the light then maybe I'll be a little more consistent

Make sure that the selector for 4-6-8 cylinder is set correctly or that the wire that are on the shift light for 4-6-8 cylinder are well connected... Had the same issue in our Cuda 2 weeks ago and it was coming on at 3000 rpm instead of 6300 that the chip said.

I just got the MSD LED light and it is nice... the only thing i dont care for is that the light blinks 11 times when you give it the switched power. Haven't used it at night yet but it probably will nearly blind a guy.
