I need to determine what torque converter would be best for my wife's Challenger. This is a mild street car that will be driven around our area, possibly with grandkids on board, to cruise ins and shows including some highway driving. Would like decent performance from the car but drivability is the main priority.
Engine is a 1968 440 with original stock forged internals that has been cleaned, honed and assembled with new rings and bearings.
Heads are aluminum unported Stealths with better retainers and locks.
727 transmission has been rebuilt with shift kit and standard (non manual) valve body
Hooker 1 7/8" headers with full 2 1/2" exhaust.
Induction is a stock Six Pack setup
Cam is Lunati 60302: •Advertised Duration (Int/Exh): 262/268 •Duration @ .050 (Int/Exh): 220/226 •Gross Valve Lift (Int/Exh): .475/.494 •LSA/ICL: 112/108 •Valve Lash (Int/Exh): Hyd/Hyd •RPM Range: 1400-5800
Going to start with 3.23 Sure Grip rear but have a 3.55 center section if we're not happy with the 3.23
Not looking for a custom built, big dollar, high stall converter but something that stalls between 2000-2400?
A couple reputable builders who aren't trying to sell me their products have suggested a Dacco 359 non lock up.
Any advice or suggestions?
Thanks.

Call PTC and discuss what you want. Much better chance of getting what you want the first time that way.
Master, again and still

Stock is where I would start. Do you have the stock converter? I have the converter that was in the car. I have no idea if it's stock or in good condition or not. I was planning on using it for a core. I'm told the Dacco 359 is the stock 12" converter used in Six Pack cars but not externally balanced. Around 2200 stall.

A stock 383 hp converter ,(10 3/4 inch core) which was also used behind the 340 and Hemi, would stall about 2600 to 2800 rpm. Just be sure it is the hi stall version of that core. I think there was a low and a hi stall. This to me would be the best option for a street car with a mild cam. More stall may be a touch faster with street tires, but not worth the down side unless you spend extra $$ for a special converter. A stock replacement is what I am thinking, just be sure on the stall it is set for.

Stock is where I would start. Do you have the stock converter? this! a stock converter and 3.23 gear will work fine with that small cam.

the Dacco TC #359 you describe, when I googled it, shows: 67-76 6cl/318 69-72 383 2bbl 72-76 400 forged crank that's from a 2012 catalog I found online - I picked up a Dacco #766 which is a rebuilt 11" hemi TC - 24-2700 stall I think..., my brother picked up a Big End Motorsports TC #32008 for me for my birthday - 11" 24-2700 stall also - so I have to choose - my combo is a 440-6, .030 over, Lunati 10230703K kit - 271/279 duration, 494/513 lift, supposed to be good 1800-6200 and likes a 24 and up stall TC, '71 carbs, alum intake, basically stock rebuild w/906 heads, exhaust manifolds, trans is a BUILT 727 - all premium guts/clutches - very tough - 2.5" exhaust w/X pipe, dynomax ultraflows, 8 3/4 w/3.55 new SG...just check your Dacco #
