I'm not sure where to ask this: I'm contemplating running MT 10 1/2 X 31 ET DRAG tires on 8 1/2 Centerlines. With this combination I can get the tire I want under the car (73 Charger) without modifications other than a Doctor Diff Spring Offset. Otherwise, It's tubs or mini-tubs. What kind of trouble am I asking for running a narrower than recommended rim?
Thanks
Less of a contact patch

It won't hurt it. It will be a little narrower and the sidewall will become a little more stiff but it will work fine. I have run a 31*13 on a 10" wheel for years.

How fast are you going? Car will definitely be more stable on a wider rim. I'm running 10" rims with a 10.5 tire and some run 12" rims.

Run it, you won't have any trouble. I've done it for years, have many friends doing it on some fast stuff, never any trouble. CHIP

If your running the 10.5x31x15 W tire you need a wider rim like Bobr has said, if it is a non W tire you will probally fight getting the best contact patch with the 8 inch wide rim versus a 10 inch. I have ran the smaller M/T 26x10 and 29x10.5 wide tires on 8.5 inch wide rims and that work fine as far as I could tell, I never swapped those size tires onto a 10 inch or wider rim and ran them with the rim change only so I did change rims sizes on my old NHRA A/SA stocker with 9x30x15 slicks from a 8 inch wide rim to a 10 inch wide rim, that car like that a lot Different animal tho so we can't really compare your car to mine back then
