Hi all,

Unfortunately, when I bought my 1971 Satellite Sebring Plus, it did not come with a jack. Can anyone tell me what type of jack is used to raise the front end? Is it the type that attaches to the front bumper? That is, are the bumper mounting points strong enough to support the weight of the car? I am preparing to change motors, and want to drop my K-frame, motor and tranny out the bottom. I am planning to bolt a lifting bracket to the frame rails, where the bumper bracket is normally bolted, and want to make sure I don't damage anything. Thanks.

Roger

I believe 1971 was the last year that used the hook on the bumper jack. 1972 up had slots in the bumpers that the jack attached to. The bumper will support the car but I prefer to use a floor jack under the frame or control arm.

Here's the OEM supplied Plymouth jack...

(I lift mine with a floor-jack; pad on the K-frame skid-plate...

I did the same engine/trans procedure...

Supported the body at the frame rails...

Made some brackets to mount to the bumper support provisions...

Lowered the body onto the engine/trans/K-frame...

Piece o' cake...

Thanks for the confirmation. I did this with my Barracuda, and assumed I could do the same with this car, but just wanted to be sure. Thanks!

If you don't have that bracket built for lifting, I don't know that you'd need to. I just used an 1 1/2" strap and the holes in the frame rail for three cars that I have done. The strap nearly got in the way of the k-frame on an E-body (Challenger), but had no problem on a 67 Dart and 70 Road Runner.

Interesting idea, I never thought of that. If I hadn't already taken my bumper and valance panel off (a several hour job!), I might have tried it. But I'll save it for next time, thanks.
