my buddy is looking at a 2001 W3500 Cummins with a auto trans,we are told that when you come to a stop it wont shift down into low,but you can manually shift down then back up after you get going and its ok till you stop again,i dont know which trans it is but its not the same one it was born with,could it a band adjustment,or solenoids?,or what?

Should be a 47RE. Check for codes but it's most likely the governor solenoid or the governor pressure sensor. Change both.

Or the governor is full of junk because the trans. is going out. Or eating itself from the inside out. I'd look at it just like it needs a rebuild.
