Does this makrolon sheet work good for windshield and side windows?
This would be for my 31 Plymouth coupe, so it is all flat. Is it legal for NHRA racing and for street use? What thickness would I need, and what is the best way to mount it?

It will work fine,use .250 since your glass is all flat.If your stock glass uses gaskets to hold the in place you can use them to hold plastic also.

Originally the car had a heavy steel windshield frame that opened. I'm not doing that, and I don't have the frame anyway. I was thinking of bedding it in some caulk and fabbing some kind of system to clamp it in. Would that work, or does it need to have holes drilled and screwed in?

I used 1/8" embedding it in the original channels. Works fine even at 150. If it were to be used on the street I personally would use 1/4".

hot rod just so I could run wipers.. yeah.. I would have
loved going lexan due to the weight savings.. but I would
rather have the wipers

No wipers yet. I suppose I could go either way on that. Rain-X seems to work pretty good if there's significant rain falling. Maybe not very good in a light mist though.

P-body is correct. The wipers will blemish the lexan.
As a certain car on here has done and if you do not have wipers, consider your car the perfect meteorologist weather vane. If it is out and about on the street, that means you can bet it will be a sunny evening. LOL.
Good plastic polish keeps the Lexan looking new for years, but nothing beats real glass except it's own weight.

One year on DW we were coming out of Milan Mi heading
to Pa and it was pouring so hard we almost had to stop
(I think it was 2010) and there was a tornado on the
route.. we had rain-x on Dales truck windshield and it
wasnt anywhere near enough.. from that moment on I KNEW
I was gonna run wipers.. and defrosters.... and I am...
Dale keeps talking about wipers but hasnt done them yet

OK, I measured and calculated, it looks like the windshield would be 6.5 pounds heavier in glass. Close enuff for a car that will run the street. I'll go with glass in the windshield, plastic in the sides and back. Thanks for all the help!

Joel... will you be rolling the side windows up and down..
if so and you have the rubber seal that drags on the glass
you might want to rethink those also

We did a 33 Plymouth coupe.We lined the frame with windshield seal/caulk and made a nice aluminium outer frame that we attached with stainless screws.

My whiskers do not interfere with my windows going up or down. In fact, they help keep the glass in its place on the tracks and keep 'em from rattling. Rubber seals will indeed hamper their travel though.

Mine go up and down in the original run channels and cat whiskers. Drag car but it hasn't hurt it yet,300 passes.

We found the whiskers and rubber wipers tend to get dirt in them and can scratch or dull the Markolon.If you use aircraft quality Lexan it is more durable.
