Hi All,
Was getting ready to put the pan on and looked closely at the old milodon windage tray. There are multiple cracks in the tray (louver to louver). http://www.summitracing.com/parts/mil-32000/overview/make/plymouth
There are enough cracks that I dont want to weld them all and grind all the irridation. I went up into the attic and found an old mopar tray
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/dcc-4120998/overview/make/plymouth. This has far fewer louvers. Is there any reason that I shouldn't be using the old mopar tray?
3.9 stroke (470), planning on shifting at 7K
Many Thanks

Make sure you bend them open nicely... most of those
trays came with the louvers almost closed

I'd add a few holes, and make sure it clears the rods.

Prying them open with a big screwdriver used to be in the Chrysler tips.

What size rod journals and type of rods do you want to use? If BB Chevy stock rod sizes and steel H beam rods with rod bolts only with no nuts they usually clear real well on both RB and B 4.250 stroke motors with the stock Mopar windage trays twocents If your using the stock Mopar rod journal sizes and Mopar rods you may have a problem with stock Mopar brand windage tray shruggy

I can buy the Mopar brand windage trays from Summit cheaper than I can buy them from the local Dodge and Chrysler dealers scope I bought a Milidon stroker windage tray also and they definetly will not work with a stock Mopar passenger car oil pan down Maybe they fit thier race pans shruggy

Mine clears my 512 stroker with Eagle rods. In my pic that is a stock pan that I made deeper & set up for external pickup. I bought mine from Summit but I had to enlarge the holes a bit but nothing that couldn't be done with a small die grinder.

Summit Racing SUM-G2339 - Summit Racing® Molded Gasket Windage Trays

Summit Racing SUM-G2340 - Summit Racing® Molded Gasket Windage Trays

I used the 2340 with my 4.25 stroke, 2.2 journal, stock pan and pick-up. Other than opening up the drains a bit and adding a few more drains, I really liked this tray/gasket combo. I'll be using it in all my future builds.

The stock louvers in the stock tray are pretty useless , can't figure out their real use?? I had a few stock trays louvered like the milodon tray because all that stock tray does is slow the flow of oil back to the pan sump.

The last one I used for a buddy I just drilled about 20 1/4 inch holes in a few rows to get the oil back tothe sump faster.

The plastic windage trays look like a good idea but they don't seal very well unless the pan rail is super stiff. I had to add pan rail stiffeners to the last couple of engine builds to stop the leaks. I think the gasket material is so stiff that it actually bends the rails on a sheet metal pan.

i think it depends on what you seal it with Andy. I sealed mine with nothing but grease so it could be removed easily. been out a few times since the build, no leaks at all.

I had trouble with a leak on my composite gasket too, mine withe the O.E. sheet metal pan.

The raised ribs on the composite gasket are best with solid rail surface cast pans and was so noted on their spec sheet.

I used stock windage tray and gaskets with red spray Permatex, dry as a bone.

Now maybe they changed the design of the sealing ribs to accommodate old style rails so they don't leak,
but that was my experience.
