Anybody running American Racer DOT tires as a street/strip tire ? They seem reasonably priced ...

I used to run them on my Cuda. They were better than hard street tires but not as good as tires like the ET Street's.

Find a local dirt track and buy them with 1/2 to 3/4 tread! Sometimes they give them to you for free! I was buying them for $20 apiece.

I used to sell alot of them under the McCreary name. Can't beat'm for tge money. Not a true drag race tire. But, I ran 6.20's on them years ago.

McCrearys were cheap and hooked well enough to run high 11s, but I haven't used them since the late 1990s.

We ran the G60-15 McCreary's on my sons Dart and it ran just as fast on them as it did on slicks that day. His Dart ran 11.66 on the McCreary G60's and 11.68 on 28 x 9 M/T slicks. The slicks were taller as the G60 McCreary's were about 26" tall but it hooked great on them. I believe they even said "Dirt tires" on the sidewall somewhere but we drove the streets on them and raced on them with good results all the time. I dont know if the American racer are the exact same tires though. Ron

A buddy of mine built a notch back mustang with a grand national engine/trans.
Had L60 McCrearys on it. Car looked stock, had a set of Aero wheels on it. Those were like $50 a piece. Thing was so quite didn't even hear it.
With the McCreays and the car turned all the way up( high boost, race gas) that car went 9.40's. In drive around street trim, high 9's. this was back in about 2000.
That car made us A LOT of money.
Those tires flat out worked. But you had to get the right compound.

I wanted to run them on my dart. I remember everyone ruinning the McCreary when I was kid. Sizes seem kind of limited, and not a lot of places sell them. a speed shop in town used to sell them. He had them piled up on the f!oor all the time. If you even looked at them he'd tell you best bang for the buck right there.

back in the early 70's we ran mccreary slicks on everything as the mccreary dealer was only 1/4 mi. away from my home. [yes, there was "stripes from the shop to home, and from home to the shop.] i still have a set or two of 11.00x15,s we use for rollers. they aren't cracked and have plenty of "hole" left ! might be kinda hard now though.......

Oh yes the G/60 McCreary's we ran on my boys Dart were a treaded tire that looked like a normal street tire. As for where to get them try Googling "American Racer Tires" as I believe they have a website. Ron

They have a website, if you email them they will tell you the closest dealer. There are all kinds of dirt track tires, there are a few different dot street treads, but I think there is realy only one tire meant for street strip, and it only comes in a few sizes. They gave me a few mail order places, but nothing local.

I used to run them! Great tire for the money. Glad they're still around!

I was on there site yesterday. the ff tire would be the tire for street/strip I believe.it would be the correct size at 28.6/12.6/15. the dot tire requires a tube. some of their tires are on clearance for $20ea. just might get some.

Had some friends that used to run them on their mustangs. They really liked them...think the fastest of the group was in the 11s.

I'm just looking for a tire that will keep me out of the ditch with this torque monster I'm putting together. looks like a good option.

Where are you seeing prices? I didn't see a price anywhere.

I checked their website and think what I ran was a 285/60-15 DOT with the GG tread pattern. Nothing they make is described as a street/strip tire, but they offer some in a soft enough compound to hook up OK, despite their stiff (no wrinkling) sidewalls.

Here is their website. All the tires require tubes and are bias-ply.

Just like many tube type tires you can run tgese tubeless. We did. The 285/60 g tread is the best tire. They also make g60, l60, 295/50 and a 305/60. The 305 has the ugliest tread but, I went 6.20's on that tire.

They should be less than $150 a tire. When I soldvtgem regularly they were less than 100 a peice.

DO NOT BUY THE ASPALT TIRE. YOU WANT THE DIRT COMPOUND DOT TIRE.

I CAN STILL SELL THEM LAST TIME I CHECKED.
