Does the length of the drive shaft need to be changed when going from 8 3/4 to Dana 60?

that'd likely be in the archives but I would not purchase anything till you mockup & see exactly how long of a driveshaft you need (rear suspension loaded/butt front yoke into trans/want ~5/8-3/4 end play at rear pinion/ujoint)

Didn't check the archive, good idea. Haven't ordered anything yet, just trying to plan it so I can minimize surprises.

Thanks

archive says its 1.120" shorter (axle CL to pinion flange) but that (in effect) is a nominal spec since driveline tolerances vary greatly (that dimention should be OK but everything else will skew it). Planning is VG but on this deal when the times comes I would swap in the dana first then mockup & get a C to C dimention that you need & then find one that is with in range (gives correct end play) or have yours cut down and balanced. EDIT No zerk (solid/no grease passage) ujoints are the strongest & may or may not be needed for your app. Spicer is a good brand & a few others. confirm that the ujoints move freely thru their travel when you get the shaft back or if you install em and you want the zerk to be in compression

If you do a search, the differences are usually an 1 inch. Sometimes + and inch sometimes minus an inch on the same model year car. I'd just wait til you changed it and check. I just did this swap and had a new driveshaft made bc I don't know how long an old one will last behind a 470" stroker. Plus I was going to have to change u joints anyway with the strange 60 going in. Hopefully my driveshaft shows up this week and my swap is complete.
