Would it be a good idea to go to bead locks on a drag radial in a heavy 3700 pound hopefully low 10 sec car with trans brake ? Drag radials are 295/65
Thanks

Don't think it's needed, but I know champion wheels have the bead locks if you want new wheels. Put a mark on the Dr's next time you race to one on the wheel if it's spinning then I'd say yes you'll need then

You wont need them... glue them on and with the
higher air pressures used in them you will be fine

On my street/strip Cuda, I have moved the tire up to 2" on the rim during a night of KOS competition. The only down side is that I balance my tires for street duty. And the movement renders the balance useless. Other than that; no big deal.

If you have a clean bead on the wheel on nothing on the tire they usually move little if any. We do not have screws or beadlocks on our dragster and they have not moved even a fraction of an inch. You DONT need them for your car unless it is just a looks thing for you.

I think the heavy hitter DR guys use them when they are running 12-15" wide wheels on DR's. Then they are a must IMO.

Personally I would never risk the glue, but to each their own.

People jump off bridges and don't die either........doesn't mean I want to try my luck at it

I'm with Monte on the glue deal...Ours would move 4-6" after a race glued...Bead locks took care of that...Even with the extra weight we lost no 60' !!

Gary and Monte we are talking about a 10 second car here. Nothing like what you guys are doing. FWIW they don't use bead locks on most Comp cars either.

I know guys with Super Stock cars going mid-1.teen 60s on radials, no glue or beadlocks.

If the results don't match the theory, change the theory.

I've had my drag radials screwed to the rim since 2006 when I first started running them. Didn't hear that was a bad idea until just the past few years. Never had any problems that I know of from it.
Low 1.3 and high 1.2 sixty foots at 3900 lbs.

This isn't a 2200lb comp car, nor is it a radial slick. This is a DRAG RADIAL. They are dead hooked or they spin, no in between. Heavy car, trans-brake. I would run beadlocks.........And no, you should never put screws in drag radials, BUT, given the choice of that, glue, or nothing, I would use screws.

Chads son just knocked a drag radial off the wheel on a 3000lb small block Nova, that weighs 3000lbs and runs 6.0s in the 1/8 and 60fts in the mid to high 1.30s. Just because it has never happened to some, doesn't mean it can't

We have been running a drag radial in our 3600lb 9 second car(brand X so no one here cares)since 2004 and never had an issue. No screws, no glue no movement after first couple passes, maybe 1-2" in the first few laps then they dont move.

Just because some have an issue does not mean everyone will smile. Not talking 220 lb coomp cars was referring to Super Modified stuff but I get what you are saying. Having a CLEAN bead on the wheel and a CLEAN bead on the tire and they work fine, at least have been for us since 2004. Obviously my experiences have been vary different than Montes.

Having said all that one way to make sure it NEVER moves is with a beadlock. If one is so inclined to put them on a typical bracket car cause they feel better using them then by all means go for it. IMO money could be better spent in this particular case elsewhere, just don't think this type of deal warrants them.

This is a message board and your mileage may vary

Mine do not move at all on a pass. However they do move when driving through the pits turning with the spool. . I have seen lots of movement in the pits.

So in your guys opinion at what point does a race car running DR need some form of beadlock rim? I had planned on using screws for my junk but after hours of research on the net I'm starting to rethink it.
Thanks Moparts
