I've been out of the muscle era stuff for a while, so I'm a little rusty. I bought this air filter lid years ago. From what I can tell, it's off a 71 Plymouth. I'm focusing on the remains of the factory Coyote Duster decal for identification. If you look close at the detail pic, you can see the decal is still there, but the ink is gone. Right click the pic and open it in a new tab to see it bigger. A little bit of ink is on the lower right, and it's yellow, not tan like the 69-70 decal. Also, the upper left portion is very rounded, just like the dust cloud on the 71 decal. The early decal is squared off, which looks completely different from this one. From what I've seen, the 71 383 cars had a round lid. What about a 4bbl GTX? Would it have had this lid? Would a GTX even have had a Coyote Duster decal? I thought that was a Road Runner only deal. I know it's not a 440+6 lid because the recesses are too close together. The only other possibility is that it came off a Hemi.

I know it was available on the 69-70 cars, but what makes me think it's from a 71 is the decal. Did anyone actually read what I was talking about? Was this cover available on either a 383 or 440 4bbl in 71?

Coyote Duster decal only used on Road Runners , with N96 .
A 1971 Air Grabber Road Runner used the round lid , unless it was a Hemi .
The stud hole location is different than a 440+6 if I remember right.
My guess is it came on a 1969 Road Runner.

It has a 71 decal on it, so it's not a 69.

It's not a 71 lid. The Road Runner and GTX both had the round lid with the 383 or 440-4barrel, owned many 71 airgrabber cars, all round lids except the hemi and 6. And I believe most the 70's also received the round lid with 4 barrel. The lid you have is definitely a 4 barrel lid, the 6 barrel had the rear hole farther back. Looks like a 69 or possibly an early 70.

Again, it obviously has a 71 Coyote Duster decal on it. I find it hard to believe someone would buy a new style decal and put it on a 69-70 part just to cover it up with a bunch of cheap stickers.

Here are the 71 and 69-70 Coyote Duster decals, respectively. Look at their outlines, and it's easy to see mine has a 71 decal.

So perhaps someone went in to the dealer in 1973 and bought the 1971 style decal , put it on their 1969 air cleaner lid , peeled it off in 1976 and added the Fram, Carter, Thrush etc. decals ? Bottom line, it's not a lid that was installed on a 1971 Road Runner from the factory , unless it was a Hemi .

Can you measure the hole spacing?

It looks like a 71 Hemi top to me.

I understand the possibility of the sticker being put there by someone, but I don't know who would spend the money on one just to cover it up. If they were to have taken it off, I'm sure they would have taken off the yellow Mopar decal at the top, too. The fact is it's still there. Look closely at the detail pic. Most of the ink is gone, but the actual vinyl is still firmly attached to the lid. What I'm trying to determine is the likelihood it came off a Hemi Road Runner. I may never know for sure, but a definitive answer against it is impossible. Either way, it's just as you said, a nice piece of wall art.

Morty426, the spacing is for the 69-70 383/440 4bbl and 69-71 Hemi.

Impossible to know, we were not there. You ever take a statistics class?

70-71 383/440 4 bbl used a round lid, the oval was only 1969 on a single 4bbl.

First off what leads you to believe that only 1 person besides yourself would have owned it ?

It would be better if you were able to remove the telltales of the 71 sticker, then you could claim it's a 71 E body Hemi lid $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

My friends and I used to buy every sticker we could get our hands on and put them on anything that didn't move. I bet we weren't the only ones who did. devil
