I'm slowly piecing together a 3" exhaust on my '72 Dart big-block. So far it's ready to be TIG or MIG welded (by someone who can weld far better than I can) back to the rear extensions from the X-pipe kit.

How many hangers should I use, and where should the pipes be suspended?

At the front the headers will support the exhaust system. The X-crossover is difficult to hang since it's centered under the driveshaft. I think the body originally had a hanger at the outlet of each muffler, and the tailpipes near the bumper.

Thanks for any hints.

i did the x pipe in my 67 coronet, i found some factory tabs on the floor board that i was able to run some bolts into and drop the hangers from...
right there where the floor runs up some for the hump for the axle, think where the pinion snubber would touch and look about 12" outside the center there.

Yes, there are tabs there (that's pretty close to the rear of the mufflers). I plan to use those.

Did you hang your system anywhere else from the headers back to those factory tabs?

You got all the information right there in bold,no point in making it any more complicated than that up

those are the only hangers on mine, i didn't go all the way out the rear though. if had gone all the way to bumper i would've fab'd some kind of mount back there too probably.

Thanks guys. "Everything should be as simple as it can be, but not simpler”.

Yes, I will hang the tailpipes under the trunk floor somewhere (can't use the frame rails since with the minitubs the springs are directly under them).

Another issue - My Summit X-pipe kit is several inches behind the front U-joint of my 3.5" driveshaft, and can't be much further forward because it would hit the safety loop. So the X has to clear the shaft with the rear suspension at full extension. Is this going to be the low spot under the car (or will I be scraping the mufflers on speed bumps instead)?

I guess it doesn't really matter since the exhaust system has to go somewhere... it is what it is. With leafs/Caltracs and 295-50 tires on 15" rims, ground clearance should be OK. We shall see.

The hanger locations are in the rear axle hump forward of the axle and behind the bumper either against the trunk floor or on the frame rail (depending on model)
