I had no idea the FITech were so affordable. I thought these were still $2500.
For under $1500 I can get the fuel sump and FI setup. That is good news. Plus I believe summit has $100 off and if you're lucky you can find a discount code through summit on top of that. You can search here on moparts for reviews on that product. I know feets is going to get it and has friend/s that have it also. If you rebuild the heads, you definitely are better off buying a set of aluminum by the time you add up the cost. My dad stuck a good chunk of change in his stock iron heads and nothing crazy was done to them. I got the 440source stealth heads and they were around a grand. Stock out of the box they performed great. If you're patient, you can find a used set to save some cash. Now I've had them CNC ported and all that good stuff, but stock performed wonderfully.

Is it worth doing head without a cam? even the reasonable cams mentioned on this thread?

I would do one of the summit cams. Good choice for this application IMO and very cheap.

Yeah, we will be purchasing that this weekend after the compression check. Of course, provided it is not snowing......

Is it worth doing head without a cam? even the reasonable cams mentioned on this thread? Or put it this way: -Why buy new heads? Weight is one factor, but the better flowing heads need higher compression to do any good. Well, are your heads in bad condition it's another story. Do a compression test and post the numbers here. If some cylinders are down, then do a leak-down-test. Add a cam that builds more cylinder pressure and get the EFI from FiTech as a start. Like someone said, Summit has good and cheap cams. You don't even have to take the engine out in this first step. No reason for overkill if you want a daily driver. Would be very interesting to put it in a chassis dyno before and after!

Gentlemen,
Finally did the compression check. Plugs looked good in all cylinders. Nice tan color.
I had 120 - 125 in all cylinders except 1 and that cylinder was 140.
Book says minimum of 100 with less than 40 psi from cylinder to cylinder.
Book says this is a 8.2:1 compression ratio engine.
At any rate, we are installing FITech unit soon and then this may be a fixture on the st Louis roads between st Charles and alton.
