Has anyone installed the Hurst conversion?

I was wondering if the tunnel requires any butchering if you already have the factory 4spd hump for the short version pistol grip?

Thanks
Chris

It looks like it includes a piece of sheet metal to modify the tunnel with. To get good drive line angles with the Tremec you have to cut the tunnel.

If you already have a 4 speed setup, do yourself a favor and get a Passon 4 or 5 speed overdrive. The only thing you will need to change is from a 23 to 18 spline clutch.

For the price, go Passon

Don't be the exception.

My car is an auto, but want to go 5-spd. I like the "kit" version as it appears everything is there, and new.

I have looked into the Passon-5spd, and like what I see. Isn't the trans alone around $5k? So I'm currently seeing it as being a little more expensive for the whole conversion...but less cutting.

SST offers a good package also, but again, your dealing with a company thats changed hands/bankruptcy twice now... Not sure if I want to go that direction.

If your going to go with the Hurst driveline conversion, it's based on the VERY early American Powertrain conversion, so the case (size wise) has little to no mods performed to it to fit the tunnel, plus most of the components are outdated in comparison to the latest offerings from the various 5 spd kit manufacturers...

If your looking for a 5spd Tremec, I'd recommend Silver Sport Transmissions, talk to Jeff Kauffman at SST, IMHO a TKO 600 .64 OD is the only choice in 5spds on the market

As far as the Passon 5sp, I don't think he has even offered that application (71-2 B/Ebody) yet?....plus the list for customers waiting is rather long from what I hear/read, his transmission and shifter pkg is currently $4995, if your converting an automatic you'll need all the other 4 spd accouterments to complete the job...

An SST kit depending on the options you select in regards to the transmission itself, as well as other option such as hyd throw out bearing, shifter options, etc, etc will run you anywhere from $3700-$5500, but you'll get a bell housing, clutch, flywheel, thrust bearing, transmission, crossmember/poly mount, speedo cable/gear, reverse switch/harness, drive shaft/yoke/u joints balanced to 10K rpm, plus assorted fastners/hardware for the install, shifter/hyd TOB will be optional, as will pedal assy's if needed, IMHO SST is one stop shopping if your going the TKO route...

So far I recommend SST as well. I haven't fitted everything up, but so far, so good. T56 Magnum conversion for me (don't attempt that one if you care about originality)

I did the prior generation SST/TKO conversion on a '70 California built E auto. These are the tightest in the forward transmission area. I welded in the 4 speed hump plus the supplied relief piece for the forward part of the tunnel. It all fit up and drive shaft angle was dialed in correctly with a stack of flat washers on the trans mount. Headers needed a bit more up angle on the collector connectors (+7 degrees ?). The TKO can get tough to shift, especially 2-3 above, 6,000 RPM but my stroker does not need or like to run there so no issue. I have been happy with the result... and just finished an HSAX track day where it did great with a warm 496 in front.

CDP,

Silver Sport Transmissions has never had a bankruptcy and we've never changed hands. SST was formed out of the Keisler Engineering assets and we have NO CONNECTION to the former KEI owner. This has been covered many times over the past two years.

• We do not require deposits to order transmissions, you pay when the order is packed and ready to ship
• We do not ship with backorders
• We ship quickly out of stock, usually within 2-3 days depending on shop flow
• We have the most COMPLETE kits available, no searching for other parts
• Best customer service

If anyone has questions regarding these comments, please feel free to call me anytime. 865-609-8187 or mobile 865-801-4454.

Jeff

Jeff,

I got an E-Mail about the LGT-700 kit being available again?
Can you post more information on it and any changes that were made from the old Keisler kit?

Unfortunately, the LGT kits haven't been available for months. The last communications we sent regarding those kits has to be close to a year old.

We no longer offer the LGT product and here are the reasons why:

1. Legend still owes us 25 units from an April 2015 purchase order. That's right, one year ago this month. We would be happy to just get our $25,000 deposit back and call it a day.
2. Legend was evicted from their facility at the end of 2015.
3. You can figure out the rest.

The last I heard, Mopar versions were not available the the shifter locations for E and late B weren't even tooled up. I think we still have some B body (66-70) crossmembers left from the Keisler purchase if anyone happens to get their hands on an LGT unit.

I'm not trying to bash LGT, just stating the facts as I understand them. I'm always available by phone - Office 844.609.8187 or Cell 865-801-4454
