Thought I'd share a few pics of an NOS starter I recently picked up. It's dated 10th week of '70.

Long story short - I really just stumbled on this. I bought it on ebay a while back where it was advertised as a "rebuilt" unit. When it arrived I was surprised how pristine it was. It even came in the original Mopar box. Shows a little shelf/box wear, but otherwise it's beautiful.

So how much you gotta have for it? A mini starter is the way to go ya know! Nice find. We should all save the pics of the paint details. Do you have another picture of the terminals?

I sent it to Jim Ridge for inspection and he took a bunch of pictures of it. I'll get them posted once I get a chance.

Mopar use to sell rebuilt units over the counter and they looked just like that one. At one time they sold a lot of rebuilt stuff like alternators, starters, etc. Do you have a pic of the labels on the box? I bought one off ebay about 10 years ago too. It was on my charger when I sold it. Never even bothered to check the date code.

So YOU were the one that won that starter! I found that on Ebay too last August. I realized it was really an NOS one right of the bat since it was painted properly with the barrel black paint fogged over to the nose. Nice date code too. The guy had no idea what a GEM he had and listed it as a rebuilt at a $10 starting bid. I had the top bid of $30 until the very end. I put in a last second bid of $170 to make sure I didn't get sniped, but it wasn't enough. Sucks to loose by $1 . It's worth $400 or so. Most guys restoring starters improperly paint the barrel separate and then assemble. Correct way is assemble then paint the barrel and let it fog over to the nose. You are lucky you got that!!

Wow, how cool is that? Can you post some pics of it please. It would be very helpful when I have to redo the starter in the 69 runner that my grand pop gave me.

inherited a 69 roadrunner from my grand pop.

Yeah that was me. I didn't realize it was NOS from the pics in the auction. I had been looking for one that was date code correct for my car for a long time and that was the first nice one I saw. I was just happy to get one with the right date code - the fact that it was NOS was a bonus.

I don't think it was a rebuilt unit - it's too pristine. I do have the box, but the label is covered in brown shipping tape. I'll see if I can get any info off the label without destroying it.

I should have said reman not rebuilt since that was actually what they called them back then. I worked at a Chrysler dealer back in the 70`s. Mopar had a whole line of reman replacement parts. Brake shoes, regulators etc. That was why I asked about the box. Some times they would use first line(new) parts to get the parts moving until they would get cores back. They would just slap a reman sticker on the box. So what I`m trying to say that it is possible a new starter to have been in a mopar box labeled reman.

I love finding treasures like that. It's what keeps me looking at parts all the time.

Uploaded a bunch of hi-res pics to the original link. I will have to work on the box this weekend to see if I can get the packaging tape off without damaging the box.
