I just finished the engine transfer on my 68 charger with a 727 automatic and when i went to go start it she would only start in neutral and when ever it went into park i would get nothing. So is this my neutral safety switch or should i be looking somewhere else? Also i needed a new alternator and the auto zone gave me a replace they said was the correct one for the 440 and it fit and everything but there was a sticker on the side of it that said a on board computer would control how much it charged the battery, but it fit right up and seems to work, am i using the wrong thing or is it fine?

Thanks for any input and sorry about the length

Adjust your linkage a bit so it pushes it slightly more into park.
I would not sweat the starter!

I agree. When you connected your shifter linkage to the transmission your shifter or the shifter in the transmission wasn't quite where you thought it was.
so you are not all the way in park.

Okay so the linkage that goes directly into the transmission or the part that connects right before the transmission? Also what are your thoughts on the alternator iam using and that onboard computer sticker?

Thanks Alot!

Alternator I'm not sure on that one. Is it a 3 wire, 2 wire or one wire???

The only part of the linkage that is adjustable is the rod that attachs to the shift lever on the trans.

As for your neutral switch,is it the one that is original to the transmission? There are two different one wire switches, each take a different internal cam to operate correctly.

I would think they mean it's not like a chevy internally regulated but done by your regulator .
Do you have electronic regulator and ignition??
