What is involved to use the A500 flat type pump gears in a mid '70s 904 pump?

Should just be installing the 93-04 pump gears which have flats in the place of the lugged style gears. At that point it's just having the correct converter - lockup/non-lockup, correct input spline count, etc. along with the pump drive with the flats. I've done quite a few with no issue.

I thought you might have to use the front cover off an A500 pump.

You can not just swap the gears, they are bigger diameter.
