okay i am wondering what i need to do.I have a few gm one wires laying around and i know to run a 8 gauge wire to the battery. The question i have theres two tabs f and r which wire do i use to run to my igntion switch also can i run that wire to my postive side of the coil. Instead of the switch also i have heard people say i need to get a diode other the alternator will drain my battery. Is there one off a car i can rob or should i get one from a parts store thanks alot. the motor is a 1972 440 with mopar performance electronic igntion 4 speed

more info on what system you are working with. using a full 12V coil? it would need to be fed in ign2 crank and in ign1 run. are you going to eliminate the ballast?

I also was running a a points style regulator that I will by pass out of the system. I believe it was some kind of early 60s gm regulator

Oh OK you are speaking of a gm 1 wire alt. I'd Google it.

It sounds like you are starting with an internally regulated alternator but not a "one wire" since you have the two light terminals. True one wire turns itself on when it starts spinning w/o ignition input.

One terminal is ignition switch on... need to Google it to find out which. Coil + w/o ballast should work though more direct connection to ignition + may be less noisy and better. The other, I believe, is for remote sensing. You can use it to sense from the factory location (# 1 splice), another location like the fender relay or just jump it to the main output stud. Neither of the wires needs to be heavy. 14 gauge is more than enough.

Diode is normally not needed unless you are running an alt light. Again need to google it.

Turns out i have a gm 10/12si alternator so the r gets wired to the igintion. The f gets jumped to the battery stud and your suppose to run a diode. on the r but since i tapped into my postive side of the coil i didnt run a diode. And i didnt have to drill the bolt hole out bigger
