Nice, accurate detailed list. I bet most people would be sickened to see what they actually spent on a build vs what they think/estimate. Its easy to overlook all the little things. I'm almost finished bolting together a "from scratch" 528 hemi build, and kept track of every expense. Every nut, bolt, washer, shipping, machining, gas to go get parts on craigslist, tax, cleaning supplies... you name it. Its discouragingly eye opening to keep track of.

Agreed, you need to know where to look, lxforums.com is a good resource too- and you have to know what you are looking for. I bought injectors, headers, clutch/flywheel, fuel rails, oil pickup and my 7.0L aluminum long block all used through different forums

I know you have won more money than I have in bracket racing, so I guess you pulled some out of the kitty to build this and did not finance the project on Visa/Mastercard

One thing I refuse to do is race on credit. If I can't afford a part, i'm not going to buy it.

I think we should upload this to Google Cloud and send it to some machine shops and have them round out the bids and provide their discounts on the builds. Also, can they get a published dyno sheet on the build once produced.

My point is to make it work for you, if starting from scratch and writing a check for everything, yeah they may cost more. So what, they are bada$$.

They dont cost more. Dustin's has custom pistons, you dont "need" an ATI balancer, in most cases you dont need Cometic head gaskets, my water pump and hoses cost less than $100, if you buy intake from Mike Ware it only costs 550, i bought tie bars but not collars because you really dont need the collars. That is probably 2k right there if you compare Dustins engine to mine.

What if you got a 6.4 for 3k, put a stroker and cam in it. Could we then claim how expensive LA are?

The real comedy is that the "member" thats always saying how expensive g3s are has a hard on to drop 5k+ to put victor heads on a LA

iagree

The thing is BUILD WHAT YOU WANT!
You want an R3 then by all means build one!
Some claim the R3 is cheaper than a G3 to build. Its a toss up! It all depends on were you get your parts!
Fact is that the G3 parts are plentiful and I can have what I want right now not searching the web for discontinued parts to be available.
So pick your poison!
