Friend of mine is thinking about putting a mopar 360 crate motor in his street rod project. Any body had any experience with these motors? He is wondering how well built they are or are they junk. Best place to buy one and get more information.

if he's up in NY tell him to look up Dwayne fast68plymouth. I bet he could build him a nice little 360. he is not that far away.

For the price of the mopar crate engines you can get more bang for you buck by having someone build you one.

I don't have and expereince with there crate motors but i don't recall them having any problems with the small blocks know the old hemi crate engines is another story

They aren't available anymore.

If you do find one that a dealer or somebody has, be advised it's been sitting for two years or more.

I remember one of the mopar mags dynoed one of the 380hp/360ci's and with a tuned carb and a recurved distributor they got 400hp out of it. Sounds pretty good to me, don't know how streetable that stock cam in there is though.

The 360/390 HP magnum based engine with aluminum heads is still listed in the 2009 MP catalog along with several other small blocks based on the new siamese 340 block. This in cludes a 440 small block.

I've been running the same one since 1997. This engine has not been babied. Never a problem.......never had the heads, oil pan, intake or even the valve covers off.

I bought a 390hp/360(P5153475) from Rick Hendrick Jeep Chrysler. That was the end of June 2008. They still had access to about 10 then. The Phone number is 1-800-456-5337

Actually you're correct, that new one can be ordered and expected to show up, however it doesn't fit the most folks' criteria of a dirt cheap stock block 360 crate engine.

The new one has an R3/race derived block, aluminum heads, and forged bottom end. The old one had a stock block, iron heads, and cast lower end, so the new one is alot more expensive to produce.

You would think if its a much beefier engine it would have a lot more power than the production based engine.

I bought a new 380/360 crate motor in 1999 and completed the car in 2000. The car sees limited street use (4.10 gear) and run occasionlly on the strip. The cam is streetable but quite a lope, idles rough at 1000 rpm. I have had no problems at all with the engine. Overall very satisfied with it. Car runs mid 12's in my 69 Cuda with drag radials thru the mufflers.

One or two members here that tried blueprintengines.com were very disappointed. I would avoid them just to be safe.

"Hey mister, something's wrong with your car, it idles roughly" - number one comment I got in Israel when daily driving a 70 Barracuda with a lopey cam.

Currently working on - 1966 Dodge A100 van 318/auto
Finally - disc brakes on the front.
In the plans - rear disc brakes, B&M 250 blower

I also remember the members that had issues, I bought the 408 dressed engine and have been very happy. I have not however had to have an issue resolved under the warranty. I can only speak from my personal situation. I am happy with my engine after 2500 miles. If i had to do it over again I would probably have one built locally just to make it easier to address any issues that may come up.

Here is my story on blueprinted crate engines.

https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...part=1&vc=1

Long story shot they didn't honor there warranty.

The main reason i went with blue printed over a local guy was the warranty o well lesson learned

no matter what I always fearful of how a company will handle a warranty claim. It was also one of the main reasons I went with them. Sorry for your troubles.
