Really, never gave that a thought. I know absolutely nothing about the tune-ups. Jetting, timing, etc. Are you using E-85? Yes... from the pump BUT only summer grade EDIT If your on with your tune up then the timing is very close to what you have.. as for the fuel.. the carb needs 30% more fuel across the whole range

Contact: mark sullen for e-85 set up...or there are many others..don't do it with a quick fuel kit....close but not were you want to be....I had great success with mark I went with Quick Fuel for my E-85.. I sent it in to them and got back a perfect carb.. I ended up jetting it up 1 jet size.. idle was dead on.. that carb on my 405ci was super consistent... didnt vary more than a few thousands all day long

Mike, you were on of the rare ones that the tune in the kit worked for, i played with it for two years to get it dialed in.no luck....mark explained to me that the tune up they sell in the kit was designed foe a relatively mid 454 build.there were modifications to the transfer slot that were required, which is above me.my best with that kit was a 9.90-9.89 marks set up has me going 9.63 @142 mph...whit some still in it...but as with most race car mods,it all depends on our abilities....pat(i also discussed this kit with Ag Cassini and he to agreed it was off for my application,so spare the expense of the kit and the learning curve and seek out the professionals)

If you're not up for buying a new carb, and just want to put some gas in it to go racing, for that combo I'd start out with VP C-16.

I didnt have the time to do it.. I was working lots of OT back then and it was worth my time to just send it in.. the best ET I got was a 8.96 and that was in the summer months.. I was doing license passes that day... I dont race in the fall months when its cool outside(thats when I change over to hunting mode)... in the spring I have to do my planting so no racing then either.. I'd post a pic of that carb but I think its too big

In fact I've run it on C-12 with no reduction in mph. However I can buy the Renegade 114 for the same price. Doug

Every combo is different, so I figure its best to err on the conservative side until you know what it's going to need.
Edit: I just Checked the VP site........ Looks like they have changed a few descriptions, and added some new fuels, and dropped a few others. Based on what I saw today, I'd probably try X16, or C14. C12 is rated for "up to" 15:1, so if I went that route I'd run a pretty conservative tune up to start with, and keep an eye on the plugs until you know it's working for you.

Q16 definitely "works". If you follow VP's advice and not leave it in the fuel system for extended periods, it's just a nuisance...... But if absolutely works.
In a 468" SBC puller motor, making pretty good power(over 800hp), it was 35hp better than C16, back to back(after tuning)...... Both from sealed 5 gallon cans.

E85 or 100LL. Cheap enough for both.
