Im installing an after market digital speedometer in the 52 dodge pick up. I'm going to use the signal from the VSS on the transmission tail shaft. It's a 42RE trans with a three wire VSS. I'm I correct that MOPAR 3 wire VSS input power is 5 volts from the PCM? I have a 1998 5.2 with factory EFI in the truck so getting 5 volts off the PCM is no problem.

Look it up for the year you use to be sure as its a Hall Effect type switch. I have seen Mopar us 12 , 9 , 8 and 5 volts to the power terminal on their Hall Effect switches. They all use a 5 volt signal wire on all of them as far as I remember but the power wire could be from 5 to as much as 12 volts and of course the last wire is the ground. Ron

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of. Not sure what year the trans is. I'll check it in the morning. I tested the sensor with 12 volts and it pulses, but want to make sure I have the correct input so I don't fry it.

Mopar used the Hall Effect switch alot as in the dist , VSS , cam and crank sensors and so on. Heck they even use the Hall Effect switch in some of the power sliding door motors on Caravans as they use them to count how many turns the motor makes so they know the posisition of the door. Thats why I dont remember off the top of my head the power circuit voltage on that speed sensor. Sorry I cant remember the voltage off the top of my head for that one. Ron
