Subject: '93 Dakota with the 3.9 V6 w/165K miles

For about a week I've been getting a very random, single dead miss, usually when sitting at a light, or just as I take my foot off the brake to pull away from the light. After that, accelerating or at steady cruise, I haven't felt a miss.

Tonight, it misfired a bunch of times in a row then went back to usual, except I was hearing a new noise. Investigating while the truck was idling, I found the PCV valve just buzzing away.

Truck feels no different. No loss of power, idles as smooth as before (well, between the random dead miss).

I replaced the plenum a year ago (used the Hughes kit) just after I bought the truck. I also replaced plugs, wires, cap, filters at that time too (about 8K miles).

And its supposed to rain the next two days.

Suggestions? Ideas?

Thanks.

I've had them do that back in the old days. I would usually clean them first off only to replace them. The check valve spring gets weak over time is my guess.

My '96 3.9 Dak with 195k on the clock runs perfect but the PCV has been doing the same thing for about the last 5 years. Replaced the PCV, no help. Now I just ignore it.

My truck has about 80K on it. Never did this until I replaced my PCV as part of routine maintenance. Tried 2 other brand PCVs, same issue. I threw out the old one before I noticed this. Wish I didnt.
Mine seems to do it for a few minutes after start. After it is fully warmed up or hot, not so much.
