Can anyone identify this radio. A friend had it in his 71 Challenger for a very long time and is now working to get it back on the road. The tag for the most part is unreadable. Thanks for any info. Greg

other than the chrome buttons, it looks like a 72-4 E body AM/FM?

Should it not have chrome buttons? I have a thumbwheel in my car and dont know too much about this style. The knobs are in the face pic off to the left.

AM only will have chrome buttons, 70-1 AM/FM are thumbwheel for E body, 72-74 AM/FM I thought were always black?, could be a vendor change?, supply issue when it was built?

Here's a pic from Wards radio site of the 72-4 E body style

It's E body for sure , and I have seen them before, although quite "rare" .
It's a # 3501501 which is the same part number as the 72-74 AM FM with black push buttons with cassette lead. This one appears to have a date code of 1361 or possibly 1561 . The AM FM radio for the 1971 E body was the # 3501050 which is a thumbwheel radio , with chrome buttons of course ,
and cassette lead. All radios mentioned in this conversation are made by Motorola .
I have had only perhaps about 2 or 3 Chrome button knob style 72-74 E body AM FM s come through this shop, and I have handled probably 5,000 Mopar radios . It was either a very late 71 or very early 72 model year application .
I have not determined which , or possibly both . The last one in here had a
date code of early June 1971. The one above looks to be date coded around May '71 . Those dates would put these radios at the very tail end of the 1971 production , or very beginning of 72 production.
If any body else has one of these, I would love to see a pic of your
part number label with date code .

Good info! Thanks Greg. His car came with an AM radio but they installed this one in the early 70's. It doesnt work right but he says he has another at home, so I will have to check that one out also. Greg

I appreciate those pics , but we are pretty well versed on those 71 Motorola Thumbwheels. Those come in and out of this shop every week . The main subject at hand is the 3501501 knob style AM FM with chrome push buttons . That's what I would like to see labels and date codes from.
Due to the rarity, and to avoid confusing alot of people, I omitted that
"sub species' from my E body radio page
