Another engine block question. I just built a stroker 512 with this block and was wondering what it came out of?

1969 block - E440 HP2
vin A9309270

Was hoping it came out of an A12 car since I have a 6 pack - original A12 set up on it now. Thanks guys.

No way of knowing for sure that this point. I looked on the A12 registry and there isn't anything close to it.

What is the assembly date on the top pad?

You can always tell people it came of an an A12 , there is no way to dispute it

All us knuckledraggers know that is it's an HP2 it MUST be a 6pk engine ... even if it came from a car not built at Lynch rd ... laugh

The pad was stamped E 440 then HP2 below that without a date stamp. I have another E440 here that is not an HP block that has 412 stamped in it whatever that means - I assume that is the date stamp?.

When I got the block machined of course the stamp was machined off. The builder then re-stamped with 440 HP2 on the pad - I asked him to take pics and re-stamp like the original....whatever it's in a 71 cuda anyway, cloned to a 6 pack. When I bought the engine block initially I was excited to find out it was an HP block with the A9 serial number.

Well with the original info machined off the ID pad it really doesn't matter. The VIN tells you it's an HP block because no non HP 440's were installed in cars built at Lynch Rd. but it ends there , no way to prove anything else .

By the way the shop could have machined the end rails of the block and left that tag intact.

Also their had to have been an assembly date on the block , especially IF it was an A12 ... not that there is anyway to prove that now as any other marks on the ID pad that may have pointed to it are gone ...

I cannot believe that the machinist was SO STUPID as to machine off the Engine ID pad. It takes extra time to set up for machining.

Kind of like taking George Washington's favorite chair to the furniture refinisher to be dipped and stripped.

You have to specify that you don't want the info removed, they don't care and some stamp their own numbers on afterward to identify in case something happens.

Took me a while to find someone capable for doing a 383 and leave the ID pad untouched.

How or why would anyone touch the I D pad of a 440?i had a few blocks done and machining was no where close to the I D pad.it is front and center right?

If the block is decked a lot, then the easy way to correct the intake alignment is to cut the ends of the rails of the block. The cutter is so big on the machine that cuts the decks that it takes extra work to avoid the numbers most shops don't want to do the extra step.
