I've never had a RR, but on my '70
Super Bee, the ashtray is painted with the same paint as the rest of the interior, dash, upper door frames, etc. : gloss body color same as the outside of the car.

Oops, sorry guys; mine was shiney (or relatively so for a beat up 40 year old pce) and looked just like my upper doors. It would certainly make sense that they were satin or low gloss. I'll take another look tonight just out of general interest.
