your link #'s didn't work, but are you looking at the "johny law motors" kit ? if so, that should work, but it's description is misleading as it is a "triangulated 4 bar" setup and as such, does not use a watts link nor a diagonal link to locate the rear side to side. it's kept in check by the upper bars which point in toward the center line of the vehicle. this is a copy of the GM suspension used in about a bazillion different vehicles over the years. seems like a reasonable price. that's all i can offer at this time.

Your link works, I looked at it, the compatibility chart shows it fits 22 vehicles, all Tri 5 Chevrolets.

The link to the installation instructions comes up with nothing available.

The pictures in the listing do not show a typical triangulated 4 link like GM or Ford have used for decades. More like a splayed foot 4 link.

The listing is too skiffy for me to consider it, I get an itch between my shoulder blades reading it.

It does say, at the very top of the listing "Upgrade Today! Coil Overs Not Included, Save $$$!!"

Listing doesn't really make sense either. You don't run a watts link with a triangulated 4 link as it will bind. A watts link (good thing to run especially on a car that handles) works with a 3 link or just normal straight 4 link. A panhard bar is the simple version but watts link is better still.


That said, my Torana uses a triangulated 4 link stock...and they work well, but not optimum compared to a proper setup 3 link/watts link type setup..on a track that is.

For the street a triangulated 4 link would be fine, or a parallel setup and panhard bar. (Some people add panhard bars to triangulated setups but it induces bind as well)

i couldn't find anything using that link, but the "johny law motors" set up i mentioned listed a 38 plymouth as one application as well as a ton of tri-5 chevys and almost all a,b & e body mopars as well, using the same picture to describe the same basic kit. i didn't notice about the coilovers not included. with that being said, what is the difference between a "triangulated " and a "splayed" 4 bar setup ? i thought those were one and the same ?

The SPECIFIC kit the OP linked to on Ebay is listed as "1938 Plymouth Deluxe Rear Suspension 4-Link Kit watts link crossmember fast usa". The application chart ONLY shows tri5 fitment, NOTHING else. The JLM website shows a vehicle specific 4 link kit that matches identically to the Ebay listing the OP is asking about in all regards EXCEPT the claim to fit a 1938 Plymouth. Can't it be made to work? Much like my wife with a lot of hassle I am sure it will. Is that why the OP was looking for a "fits a 1938 Plymouth" 4 link kit? I seriously doubt it.


See the axle mount location then the frame mount location of both the upper and lower arms.

yes, you are correct. i just glossed over the pic and the add. when i saw [paid attention to really; my mistake ! ] the actual installed pic, it isn't a triangulated setup. i am very familiar with those used in fords and gm cars of the era[s]. it just occurred to me if i was going to go to any effort to re-do his leaf suspension, i would seriously consider a "truck arm" setup ! very easy to install, handles good, set ride height to what ever you want, and can be a cheap, almost fool proof installation. with a little thought and measurement[s], if a guy had even a tiny bit of fabrication experience under his belt, he could round up the necessary components and build it from scratch, saving some money in the process. of course, welding experience of the non
"booger gum" variety would be essential.

I used this kit on my 55 Dodge pick up with coil over shocks. You need to do some fabrication to make it work. My truck drives and handles great with is kit. I have put 26000 miles on it so far with out any rear suspension problems.
