There's a few good paint mixes out there. I like the mix Holgar does. http://supercarrestorations.com/ It's on the shinier side of the spectrum, but I really like that. I've done several engines with it and it holds up fantastically! You might tell him that Cody sent you his way, but I doubt it will get you any discount.

Your in NY, so Dupont Centari is still available in your State (that's where I purchase my Centari from) acrylic enamel code EV2 (HEMI-ORANGE), have the paint mixer delete the metallic paste during the mix, add the gloss hardner as well as enamel reducer when spraying, your technique will determine how much gloss/sheen you want on the engine, I prefer a "wet/gloss" look rather than a dry finish...
Your choice whether you prime the engine or not prior to painting, I use an acid etchant primer prior to painting, never had an issue with paint lifting/peeling/etc/etc, cleanliness and preparation are your friends

Can you spray out of a gun? If so, and since Cody said so, get me your address and I'll get your a pint to try. Thanks for the recommendation Cody.
