Wife's '04 Grand Cherokee won't start. Lights, etc work, don't dim. Battery is good but the starter "clicks". How do I jump the starter to see if it's working properly. I see that there are two post and one small wire on a clip. I turned the key to "run" and bridged the two posts and nothing what so ever (no click, etc). What am I doing wrong?

Have your wife turn the key to start while you crawl underneath and tap the starter with a hammer. It should fire right up. It will possibly work a few times after that as well, but don't trust it for too long. Replace it asap.

I beat the heck out of it but no-go. Ended up being a bad connection. Took the starter out and it tested fine. Cleaned everything up and it starts just fine now.

Was it one click or several clicks? One click is a bad starter, several clicks would be low battery voltage. BTW last 4.7 starter I put in was only $78. list at dealer. They do go bad a lot.

One click. Luckily I didn't have to replace it!!
