I'm a big block guy. All I know is low deck and raised deck. What is the difference between all of these small blocks? I know there is the small bore, small journal (273, 318), large bore small journal (340), medium bore, large journal (360), 5.2 and 5.9 magnum as far as production pieces. I here R3, R5 and lifter angles thrown around from time to time. It sure seems like there is a large variety of blocks to choose from. Can someone give me a quick run down to get me up to speed?

Until a few years ago, I didn't realize that 48 degree blocks not only have a different lifter angle, but also changed lifter spacing for intake pushrod clearance... A clear benefit of a 48 degree block that is very infrequently mentioned.
