Ya Know, we all sit around and dream, and it's tough to figure what would really get the juices flowing! I've brought home cars that I thought would be really cool, and then they just sit, because they don't really excite afterwards!
I've raced my Challenger for 10 years, and really enjoy it, but when I think of "Stepping up", two cars come to mind: A pro-Stock style Neon (in Mopar/Motown Missile style colors), or a C/M Chassied A/Gas style 33 Willy's.
My second car, I really like. The all steel, stock bodied, 62 Valiant. It's got tags and runs 10.80's with a smallblock. Thing is, I'm a big block guy all the way...but with the hassle NHRA is making it to run under 10.0, I'll probably just put aluminum heads on the small block, and try to make it more streetable, while running 10's.
Got a full chassied (ladder bar/A-arm) 65 Dart Gt in the back yard, An ex-SS(72,73,74,75 & 77 AHRA Record Holder) 69 Roadrunner in Oklahoma, that I may never get to, and I won't even start listing my Dad's, and My 3 brothers' projects!!! But we never stop thinking about "The Next One"!

I still love racing my existing car ('69 Dart). However, I have seen a bunch of late '80s-'90s Daytonas that make great drag race cars. It would have to be a certified chassis car, and if it could be street legal that would be great, but you asked about race cars.
It would have to have 9 second power, but I would consider tuning it back for 10.00 to avoid some of the hassle.

I'd build a stock eliminator car....
72 Duster 340
71 Road Runner 383 or 340
Right now,I'm seriously thinking about putting my Demon back on the street...10.5 440 with Eddy heads,296/557 cam 4.10 gear,29" tires...I've been looking at the new speedo and tach combos that Auto Meter has, along with other more street orientated parts.(mufflers, seats, wiring, wipers etc)I think I can have something that runs 11's easily and still drive down to Daytona and Gainesville on pump gas.I'll keep my Road Runner as my resto ride.

I would like to build a Demon, they make such good looking race cars.
I also wouldn't mind a fox body mustang. A very very fun car to own I miss my old one.

My next race car will be a 1991-1996 dodge Stealth RT mounted on a CM tube chassis that will be legal for Bonneville racing(175+MPH) and drag racing

That one Diego posted would be pretty far up my list. Or a Pro Stock truck I think would be cool, or one of the current Stratus Pro Stockers, all this realizing that cost is not a factor. Actually just something lighter than what I have that can certify to 6.00 would be my goal. .

I really like my 68 Dart, but I would build a 63-65 B Body and run brackets and N/SS or a new 09 Challenger for Stock Eliminator if $$$ were no object. or an 09 Challenger with a few bolt ons and Race in Street Eliminator( can`t go faster than 11.50).

71-73 Dodge Colt with a moly cage for safty. A torque arm suspension. 2600 lbs with driver. 10.5x30" tire. Flat tappet 408 with ported eddy heads and reworked RAS iron rockers. Wide power band and peak power at at 6200. Powerglide with a 5000 stall and shift at 6400-6500. Pump gas with large radiator. E85 with smaller radiator. Two batterys with an alternator. Set it up to run 10.00 anywhere you go. Just for giggles make it street legal. Should be fun and low maintenence.
Getting old just means you were smarter than some and luckier than others.

If I was starting out from scratch, I'd want to build something like Jim's Dart (big-block A-body) made just enough street-legal to be able to drive it to the track (like my Challenger).
Oh, it would have to be able to wheelie like Jim's Dart, too!

I like that Valiant...I'd like something like that, or a '65 Barracuda, SB car, just a 12-second or slower plaything.
That is what i am planning next..
