I have a nice running 225 super 6 I plan on dropping in a 72 Demon and I want to put a supercharger on it
NO, not some expensive "kit", NO not a turbo not interested in either at this point. No NOS either!
IF it would work I'd like to use one of those Ford/GM V6 superchargers The size looks good and they all seem to be made for approx. 3.8L engines...225 slant being 3.7L so it seems like a match...of sorts. The big bonus for me is they can be had pretty cheap...$100 and up...I like cheap especially for this project!
I cant find a lot of info out there on this Somebody must have done it already...I'd also like to find some info on the sc itself, requirements for operation, lubrication, etc.
Anybody seen one of these used this way?
Any help is appreciated

generic picture of sc unit...Eaton M90 I believe...

I would be very interested in a project like that myself 65BelvJim. I'm curious what horse power improvements would be gained with a fairly stock set up. AND...how much $$$ to get there using a factory supercharger. Great idea.

I know a guy in Alberta Canada that did just what you are talking about. He did a blower on a 225 with fuel injection and crank trigger ignition. All in a 1960 Dodge hardtop.Very cool and very nicely done.I spoke to hima at length at a car show a few years ago.Seems to me he had all the info on a webpage too.Maybe off the Slant 6 forum ?

yeah Jeff, I saw some info on that intake from Aussiespeed, but its apparently been stalled since middle of last year. Probably more expensive than I want, I can just modify an Offy or Clifford, make an adapter.

this should help you out

Thanks Mike, some good info there.

Ken I did a search at the slant6 forums and couldnt find much info at all, except about the intake OZ mentioned above. perhaps I am search impaired there

I would like to stay away from fuel injection, crank triggers, etc., keep it super simple...which could help keep it super cheap

Are you wantint to go efi at the same time? Or mount the s/c somewhere else and pipe into in as a blow-through? I would go right to efi to make it worthwhile, but either would be doable. Making an adapter to bolt onto a 4bbl intake should be easy. Dealing with snout length in terms of aligning the supercharger pulley to your crank pulley will not be so easy. But you can buy snouts for that s/c in different lengths to get the pulley positioned out where you need it. Snout will probably cost as much as the s/c though.

I'd prefer draw through carburated as I have several carbs around that would work. The snout on most of the units I've seen is pretty long so making it line up pully-wise shouldnt be an issue...I hope!

Making an adapter shouldn't be to difficult. As for getting the pulleys aligned, you could always use a jackshaft. That's what is done on the LS1 in the corvette. They have a shaft that runs off the belt on the front of the engine and turns the pulley at the back of the engine to turn the SC. Not sure if there is any info, but www.SCCOA.com may have some knowledge. Its a site dedicated to the 3.8 Supercharged Thunderbird's. Many knowledgeable people there as well. They don't tend to do much such as swaps, but a few people have put that SC in VW golfs and such. 1 guy even swapped the 3.8SC engine for an inline turbo 6 from a Supra just to be different. And you can get those SC's from Pick N Pull type yards for as little as $50 or so from 89-95 Tbirds at least.

I bet that would work well, You could probably even use a 2bbl, although I'd probably use a FoMoCo 500cfm 2bbl. Cool idea and there's plenty of room in that engine bay.

That guy doesn't have a clue....Hits the throttle, and the motor never responds...Sorry, but if your gonna put that in a car, you will be dissappointed. Needs WAAAAAY more tuning.

I just found it in a search and thought it was cool!
But I bow to your superior engine building and tuning!

I wonder if the s/c will work with an air-fuel mix?

That question was raised on the Slant board. The most definitive answer was "maybe".

I get clearer answers from my wife!

thats for sure one of the things I'll need to find out, along with internal/external lubrication and if intercooler needed type Q's.

thanks for the help so far

FWIW the Eaton is internally lubricated, there is a coating on te rotors, I don't know if it will react to gasoline...
